Hi,
As you know, I got a used 1999 Kysho TF-1 about 2 months ago and love it. It has a full carbon chassis and a 13T modified motor and is very fast. Not as fast as my 2 nitro RS4ss cars but still very fast even without a 2 speed tranny. Cool car and easy to quicky go and bash in the street for a few minutes with my son... I wanted a second one...
Anyway, 2 weeks ago I got a very good deal on a brand new but assembled TB-01 car for $50 (4WD shaft driven, full ball bearing). The car came with a TEU-101 ESC and 540 std motor. I beleive the standard gearing is 16T pinion with 61T spur gear.
Unfortunately, the erformance is definately not enjoyable comparing with what I am used to (yes I am spoiled) so I went shopping e-bay last night. Here is what I got:
Novak Dually racing ESC (unlimited motor capabiity)
Trinity Gem 16Turn modified motor (16tX2)
Trinity Gem2 19Turn modified motor (19TX2)
set of 9 pinion gears including 15T, 17T, 6X19T and 22T
So, here are the question before I start modifying the car and screw things up and break parts:
Will the TB-01 be able to handle a 16Turn modified motor or should I install the 19Turn?
What gearing should I start with? As I said, I now have 15T, 16T, 17T, 19T and 22T pinions and 61T, 58T, 55T and 53T spur gears.
I was thinking to start with agressive motor (16turns) and relatively conservative gearing: 19T pinion and 58T spur. I have absolutely no experience with modifying electric cars drivetrain. The Tamyia manual does have a table showing the various pinion/spur comination possible using the existing mounting holes but I don't want to put too much stess on the drive train or get the motor to work too hard and overheat. I will probably try to get an aluminium motor heat sink for it soon.
Gamesta, you have experience modifying your TT-01, what do you think?
any suggestion or comment are welcome as my LHS will probably not help me with this as he hates it when I buy suff off e-bay
Thanks |

Let me change your opinion a little:
I agree that my E-stampede cannot compare with my LST or Hellfire although I heard of expensive brusless modified Revos that performs as good as a 3.3 Revo.... minus some cool factor and cost....
As far as onroad sedans, there are some pros and cons with both. My basic Electric set-up (sport ESC with 13T motor) mounted on an older carbon fiber chassis is quite impressive. Acceleration is comparable with my Nitro RS4 18ss up to when the RS4 shifts in second gear. Cornering is actually better with the electric as it weights significantly less than the RS4.
Other advantage of the Electric is that it is so easy to use, set-up and maintain compared with the Nitro. When I ant to take it out for a few minutes to bash in the street, I just plug the battery and go. When done, I plug the battery in the charger and voila... I don't have 10 minutes of basic cleaning and maintenance every time I take it out.
My 10 year old son can also take out the electric out by himself and play with his frends without my presence (he beats them up pretty bad against the Walmart toys). Too often I still have to get involved when he takes out his Nitro RS4 by hiself as it does not always work perfectly from the first pull of the starter.... Fine tuning adjustment, heat, heat, heat, broken pull start, stripped gear, overheated glow plug, etc...
Electric is also a lot easier to control when drifting.
Nothing compares with the cool factor and top speed of the Nitro cars but they are a lot more maintenance and cost ....
If I was to invest as much $ in the electric than in the Nitro, not sure witch one would be the best performer....
We should meet sometime in Pte-Claire with Gamesta, I will bring my 4 cars and you will see for yourself that electric is quite performant....
I hope I can convice you that electric can compare in some ways to Nitro... if invest the same money in them....
take care. |

Oh i dont doubt the power of electric, i just prefer the sounds, smells and brute force of a big block nitro engine. The way i see it its a matter of what you want out of an rc and for me it has to be fuel powered, its what i wanted since i was a kid.
I would really like to see a nice electric rc running and maybe try it out a little. I would love for all of us to get together at some point and just have a general rc meet in a spot where all the different rc's can run in their element. We can see what others have and maybe try out some different things if the owner is ok with that.
Lets plan something, we mostly go out on saturdays but between the anodozing and the paintball its hard to find time for a long day of bashing/racing. |

I would prefer a week night for our little reunion as I am waterskiing at the cottage almost every week-end.
It is a great idea to bring all our RC and to let others try out various models...
I might get lucky and enjoy RC up North this summer as a guy is currently building a racing track for MT and buggies about 10 minutes from my cottage. |
